Inside the middle of the main shrine, stands a prominent statue of Sakyamuni Buddha. Buddha who was born during the fifth and fourth centuries BC to Queen Mahamaya and King Suddhodana of the Sakya Kingdom in the vicinity of Nepal. He was given the name “Siddhartha” means “he who has accomplished his aim.”

At the age of 29, Prince Siddhartha decided to renounce his kingdom and seek a way out of the human miseries of old age, sickness, and death. For six years, Prince Siddhartha submitted himself to rigorous ascetic practices. Finally, he discovered the ultimate truth and understood the answer to the question of suffering. Prince Siddhartha had achieved his enlightenment at the age of thirty-five, thus earning the title Buddha, or "Awakened One."

Sakyamuni Buddha had travelled throughout northern India for about fifty years, preaching and gathering a large number of followers. He was given great reverence as a supreme teacher and exemplar. He established a sangha, or community of monks and nuns, to maintain his teaching after his death. He entered total nirvana at the age of eighty
